Evolution of the English Language: African Roots (EELAR) is a Heritage Lottery Funded project about the history of the English Language and the influence of African and Caribbean culture. Through project EELAR, we will show how people living in the UK, with African or Caribbean heritage, have experienced the English Language.
Our team of volunteers (aged 11 to 25) will interview 40 people with African, Caribbean or British heritage about how they have learnt and used English throughout their life. These interviews will be recorded for our archive in Birmingham Central Library and will also be featured in our documentary. We will conclude in April 2014, when we will invite everyone in the community to come and celebrate this heritage with us at our launch event.
